Security and our travelers

Our travel counselors have access to State Department Security Advisories and are required to advise international travelers of existing safety alerts to affected countries or regions when reservations are requested. We also offer security information, both tips and current news, in our communications to keep your travelers updated on and reminded of security situations.

We suggest that our travelers access the following:

  • Know the location, direction, and phone number of the nearest U.S. embassy, available via the Internet at travel.state.gov/links.html
  • Check current travel warnings by accessing the U.S Department of State at travel.state.gov/travel_warnings.html
  • Another resource is the FAA Consumer Affairs Hotline at (800)-322-7873, which provides information on air travel to certain foreign countries.

Traveler Tips Regarding New Security Measures & FAA Regulations

Arrival Time:    Arrive at the airport with confirmed flights.  To check flight status, use your links from your itinerary at www.virtuallythere.com before leaving for the airport or program in automatic updates direct from the airline to your laptop, phone, or handheld device.  Allow 2 hours for domestic flights, 3 for international.

Electronic Tickets:  Travelers must present a boarding pass or e-ticket receipt/agent itinerary along with photo identification to pass through security. Identification is no longer required at the gate.

Carry-on Luggage:  Airlines are advising minimal carry-on luggage.  No more than 2 bags, including now a purse or handbag, are allowed per person.  Be prepared to trash or mail suspicious items to yourself directly from the airport post office!

Parking and FAA Regulations:  New security rules prohibit parking too close to terminals, so the closest spots have been blocked off, forcing some passengers to use remote lots.  Be prepared.  At some airports, every car entering a parking garage is being inspected for security.

TSA launches a ˜Wait times' link on Web site:  The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has unveiled a Web-based service that gives travelers the ability to find out the average wait time for security checkpoints at a specific airport for a specific time of day.
